Back in October 2023, we won the Irish International Barbershop competition, achieving a score of 82.7%. As a result, we have been invited to represent the UK in Denver, USA in June 2025 and will be competing against the world’s best choruses.
This is a huge privilege and honour, only offered to the highest standard groups achieving scores over 80%. We are one of the first few ladies choruses from the UK to be invited and the first ever from the South of England.
The chorus was founded in 1982 as Chiltern Harmony under the direction of Ian Stone and won several accolades including the Gold Medal at the Annual Convention of the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS) in 1994 and Sainsbury's Choir of the Year in 1996.
Obviously, getting all our members to the USA, including flights and accommodation is an extremely expensive operation and therefore we are raising funds to help get us there.
For all of us, chorus is more than just a hobby. It is our passion, our joy, a place where we can express ourselves and share our love of singing. For some, it is a much-needed weekly social meet up, for others, a lifeline for mental well-being. For all of us, it is a time to gather with our friends and just be “me”. It is space away from being Mum, teacher, nurse, carer, Grandma, work colleagues and all other distractions.
We have all made lifelong friends and we are a team. Like any team, we need all of us to create the sound that makes us uniquely Amersham A Cappella.
However, unlike a football team for example – we don’t have huge salaries and sponsorship. We can’t all afford to go to the USA without help. We are fundraising as much as we can to help those members of our team who need it as we don’t want to leave anyone behind.
We are grateful for any generous donation and hope to make you proud!
